On February 10–11, Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Kurgan Region as part of a nationwide inspection of the social orphanhood prevention system.
During a meeting with Kurgan Region Governor Vadim Shumkov, the Children’s Rights Commissioner discussed the outcomes of the nationwide inspection of the social orphanhood prevention system in the region. The inspection team visited 19 institutions and organisations, reviewed state assignments, assessed the work of guardianship and trusteeship authorities, juvenile commissions, and conducted interviews with parents.
Maria Lvova-Belova noted that the Kurgan Region has established conditions for raising children within their own families. To further promote the family-based approach, it is essential to continue repurposing institutions and developing non-residential forms of family support.
She also held an expanded format meeting with the heads of the regional social orphanhood prevention system, during which she provided several recommendations.
Governor Vadim Shumkov highlighted that all recommendations are clear and are already being implemented.
During the visit, the Children’s Rights Commissioner toured the Regional Social Rehabilitation Centre for Minors, a branch of the Centre for Assistance to Children Without Parental Care, and held a personal reception for citizens.
