First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko chaired the first meeting of the Coordinating Committee to Support Ecological and Environmental Projects, which determined the terms and procedure of holding the first competition of the Presidential Foundation for ecological and environmental projects.
The Coordination Committee has set the following grant areas for the competition:
- projects that contribute to the conservation of rare and endangered animal species, as well as their habitats;
- projects for the study and monitoring of biological diversity;
- projects that contribute to the development of human resources in specially protected natural areas, as well as ecotourism, charity and volunteer activities;
- information and educational projects on the protection of wildlife, unique and relict ecosystems, as well as plant species listed in the Red Data Books;
- projects that contribute to the preservation of the environment in the Russian Arctic zone.
Following the competition, the Foundation will award a total of one billion rubles in Presidential grants to implement ecological projects. The Foundation has been established by the Presidential Executive Order.
