Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova made a working trip to the Perm Territory following the nationwide inspection of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood. The Commissioner met with the region’s Governor, Dmitry Makhonin, and held a meeting with representatives of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood.

The Perm Territory is taking part in the 0–4 project and the Vyzov (Challenge) special project aimed at providing timely support to families overcoming crises and reducing the number of children in state social institutions.

During her meeting with the head of the region, Maria Lvova-Belova noted that the Perm Territory reported one of the best results among the pilot regions, having created regional and municipal councils for the placement of children in state institutions, nine Children in the Family parent support services and seven Stable Family clubs that help families deal with crises, including those caused by alcohol dependence.

Governor of the Perm Territory Dmitry Makhonin informed the Commissioner that the Challenge project helped reduce the share of orphans among children and the number of children in state social institutions.

The Children’s Commissioner also took part in a meeting of the regional interdepartmental council on the placement of children in state institutions, held a working meeting with representatives of the bodies of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood, visited a support centre for children left without parental care, and met with families.

During the trip, Maria Lvova-Belova also visited the Perm juvenile correctional facility of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service, where the charity foundations of St Vasily the Great and Tsargrad have built a St Michael the Archangel Church.
