Presidential Aide, Special Presidential Representative for Climate and Water Resources Ruslan Edelgeriyev took part in the business programme of the 29th St Petersburg International Economic Forum. One of the key events he attended was the session titled Challenges and Prospects of International Water Cooperation: Water as a Factor of Sustainable Development.
In his remarks, Ruslan Edelgeriyev emphasised the strategic importance of the water agenda for sustainable socioeconomic development, food and energy security, ecosystem conservation and adaptation to climate change. He paid particular attention to the need for developing practical and mutually beneficial formats of international cooperation based on mutual respect, partnership and scientifically based approaches.
The Presidential Aide held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the forum with UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Water Retno Marsudi. The parties discussed current issues on the global water agenda and prospects for developing international interaction in this field. Special attention was given to preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference (December 8–10, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates).
Ruslan Edelgeriyev also held several working meetings on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum with representatives of government authorities, international organisations, members of the expert and academic communities, as well as with Russian and foreign business leaders.
During the meetings, discussion focused on issues of international climate and water cooperation, the promotion of Russian approaches at international platforms, the implementation of nature preservation and climate projects, and development of green technology.
