Following a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of Priority National Projects and Demographic Policy on January 19, 2010, the Prime Minister, presidential plenipotentiaries to the Federal Districts and heads of Russia’s constituent entities were instructed to ensure that the first stage of measures to implement Russia’s demographic policy through to 2025 was delivered in 2010.
The measures planned for implementation in 2008–2010 as part of Russia’s demographic policy concept through to 2025 (first stage), as approved by resolution of the Russian Government, have been carried out.
The task of improving the demographic situation underpinned all areas of the concept: promotion of health and healthy lifestyles among the population, reducing mortality and increasing birth rates, improving social support for families having and raising children, and optimising migration in accordance with social and demographic situation.
Additional measures were taken to screen the population for tuberculosis, offer training and improve the qualifications of medical professionals working at federal high-tech medical centres, provide perinatal diagnosis of child development problems in three pilot regions, and create 193 new children’s health centres.
