Council for Countering Corruption Presidium meeting

April 18, 2017, The Kremlin, Moscow

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Anton Vaino chaired a regular meeting of the Presidential Council for Countering Corruption Presidium.

Prosecutor General Yury Chaika and Head of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring Yury Chikhanchin reported on building a system for cooperating with the appropriate authorities in foreign countries in returning to Russia assets acquired through corruption-related criminal activity, and on measures to monitor compliance with the ban on civil servants’ ownership of foreign financial instruments.

The Presidium of the Council authorised the Prosecutor General's Office to deal with foreign partners in this area.

Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov delivered a report on the implementation of the Government's Anti-Corruption Education Programme for 2014–2016.

The meeting participants discussed ways to foster an intolerant attitude towards corruption and anti-corruption awareness. As a result of the discussion, the Presidium of the Council issued targeted instructions to the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education and Science.

Head of the Presidential Directorate for Countering Corruption Oleg Plokhoi cited proposals to set up a Council for Countering Corruption working group under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry to coordinate Russia’s participation in activities of international anti-corruption organisations. The proposals were supported.

During the meeting, the Council Presidium also considered personal issues arising from the exercising of its functions as the commission on resolving conflicts of interest for senior government officials.
