Vladimir Putin congratulated the Russian men’s chess team comprising Sergey Karjakin, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Grischuk, Dmitry Andreikin and Vladislav Artemiev on winning the 2019 FIDE World Team Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The message reads, in part:
“You were second to none in Astana. Every single game you played was a brilliant example of mastery, sports talent and ability to focus on the goal ahead. You performed as a strong and tightly knit team, winning gold at this world championship for the first time in six years, and did so before the tournament was even over.”
