Meeting of the Council for Cossack Affairs

November 27, 2019, Moscow

Presidential Aide Anatoly Seryshev chaired a meeting of the Council for Cossack Affairs, via videoconference.

The participants discussed the implementation of the Strategy for Developing State Policy in Respect to Russian Cossacks through 2020 and the draft strategic planning document for the Cossacks for the next period, the key activities and plans of the National Cossack Society which was formed in November, and the Council’s new structure and action plan for 2020.

In his remarks, Mr Seryshev noted that consolidating Cossack communities in the interest of strengthening the Fatherland is a very important goal now. Like centuries past, the Cossacks have become a strong backbone of Russian statehood, and one of the crucial tasks now is to develop its internal organisational structure and to start a constructive dialogue with the state authorities, the Presidential Aide noted.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov, ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Nikolai Doluda, Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk, atamans from combat Cossack societies, and representatives from a number of federal executive bodies and organisations.
