Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Council for Cossack Affairs Anatoly Seryshev took part in celebrations hosted in the Rostov Region to mark the 450th anniversary of Don Cossacks’ service to Russia.
The two-day visit programme included a number of events, the central of which was the meeting with Cossack youth on October 29 at the Sambek Heights National Military and Historical Museum Complex built to honour Soviet soldiers who fought here in 1943. The meeting participants discussed important issues related to supporting the socially useful initiatives of young Cossacks as well as prospects for further development of youth Cossack organisations.
On October 30, Anatoly Seryshev visited Novocherkassk, where the official ceremony to swear in Cossacks from a Cossack squadron (the Platov Hundred), students of Platov South-Russian State Polytechnic University, took place at the Novocherkassk Ascension Military Patriarchal Cossack Cathedral. Mr Seryshev also toured the university and met with its top officials and Cossack students, and found out about programmes for training personnel for Cossack military societies.
The events were also attended by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Southern Federal District Vladimir Ustinov, Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev, and other officials.
