Meeting of Council for Cossack Affairs

December 28, 2021, Moscow

Presidential Aide Dmitry Mironov chaired a meeting of the Council for Cossack Affairs to sum up the results of 2021 and outline plans for 2022.

Opening the meeting, Aide to the President and Chairman of the Council for Cossack Affairs Dmitry Mironov said that he was confident that the professionalism of the Council members would be helpful in developing new approaches to involving the Cossack society in public service, promoting cadet education, preserving the Cossack culture and traditions, and strengthening Russia’s influence on new generations of Cossacks living abroad.

Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District and Deputy Chairman of the Council Yury Chaika reported on the prospects of implementing state policy on Russian Cossacks in the North Caucasus.

Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov reported on the results of the State Policy Strategy Regarding Russian Cossacks.

Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Nikolai Doluda presented initiatives on improving Russian legislation pertaining to the state policy on Russian Cossacks.

Other speakers at the meeting included Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov, First Deputy Minister of the Interior Alexander Gorovoi, Deputy Minister of Education Denis Gribov and executive secretary of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Synodal Committee for Cossack Relations priest Timofei (Chaikin.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Viktor Vodolatsky reported on Russian Cossacks’ international cooperation and international contacts with Russian Cossacks living abroad.

Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin called for stronger promotion of traditional values among youth.

Other meeting participants included Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko, Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) Ksenia Razuvayeva, deputy presidential plenipotentiary envoys to federal districts, representatives of federal and regional executive bodies, atamans of military Cossack societies and clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Corresponding decisions were made following the meeting.
