General Nikolai Makarov, the chief of Armed Forces General Staff, reported to the President and Commander in Chief the General Staff operations group’s summarised information on the situation in South Ossetia.

Also taking part in the meeting were Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, the chief commanders of the different branches of the armed forces and the heads of Defence Ministry chief directorates and services.
