In a telegram to Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion in the 55kg category, Nazyr Mankiev, the President said:

“Russia’s gold medal tally has now begun. You took gold in a competition that called for truly fighting qualities, great courage and the ability to endure to the end. Your victory will without any exaggeration inspire the Russian team’s results. I also want to congratulate all of our athletes who have brought Russia Olympic silver and bronze medals.”

In a telegram to Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion in the 60kg category, Islambek Albiev, Mr Medvedev said:

“Today is a special day for the Russian team and for our wrestlers, who have won another gold medal and once more affirmed the reputation of Russia’s school of wrestling.”
