Reception to celebrate Victory Day

May 9, 2011, The Kremlin, Moscow

A reception celebrating the 66th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place at the Kremlin.

Speaking at the reception, Dmitry Medvedev noted that this year marks 70 years since the Great Patriotic War began. “This is a tragic date and we cannot but remember it today, as we celebrate Victory Day,” the President said.

Mr Medvedev said that today’s world still faces the threats of conflict and international terrorism, and humanity can fight these dangers only by pulling together and uniting their efforts.

The President stated too that Russia’s future is impossible to imagine without strong armed forces. “By developing our armed forces we are protecting our homes and contributing to the country’s development,” Mr Medvedev said.
