Dmitry Medvedev visited the regional branch North East Air-Navigation of Federal State Unitary Enterprise ”State Air Traffic Management Corporation“

September 24, 2008, Magadan

The President learned about the work of the regional air traffic control centre, which manages the movement of Russian and foreign aircraft in the airspace of Magadan Region, Chukotka Autonomous District and the eastern part of the Arctic Ocean.

The regional centre handles around 450 flights a day and is currently the only consolidated air traffic control centre in Russia. There are plans to build similar centres in Khabarovsk, Irkutsk and Kaliningrad.

Foreign airlines transit over this territory en route from North America to Japan and Southeast Asia. The intensity of flights by foreign airlines is increasing at a rate of 25 percent a year on average.
