Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev and Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov also briefed Mr Medvedev on the situation in Makhachkala, where the blasts occurred. In particular, Mr Bortnikov spoke about the measures the National Anti-Terrorism Committee has taken to investigate the terrorist attacks.

Yesterday evening, an unknown individual set off an explosive device next to a traffic police checkpoint on the outskirts of Makhachkala.
