The President also sent the team a telegram congratulating them on their outstanding victory.

Mr Putin said, in particular, in the telegram:

“Your individual skill as players and well-coordinated work as a team enabled you to get the upper hand over strong opponents, and you played all of your ten matches at the championship in the best traditions of the Russian hockey.

I express particular thanks to the coaches and specialists who prepared the team for this big competition.”

The Russian team scored a 6:2 victory in the final against Slovakia. The championship took place in Finland and Sweden.
