Dmitry Medvedev sent his condolences to the family of artist and caricaturist Boris Yefimov following the artist's death

October 1, 2008

“A man of vivid talent and a marvellous artist who made an immense contribution to developing art in our country has left us”, Mr Medvedev said in his telegram. “Born with the twentieth century, Boris Yefimovich Yefimov was deservedly seen as a master of the caricature. Over long decades his talented and relevant political posters and satirical drawings became a real event, eagerly awaited by millions of people, the readers of our country’s leading newspapers and magazines.

Boris Yefimovich’s bright memory will live on forever in our hearts”.

Just recently, congratulating the artist on his 108th birthday on September 28, Mr Medvedev noted that, through his art, Boris Yefimov did not simply reflect but helped to shape the twentieth century’s history.

The patriarch of Russian graphic arts, Boris Yefimov was a recognised master of satire. A member of the Russian Academy of the Arts, he received the titles People’s Artist of the USSR and Hero of Socialist Labour and was awarded the National Award three times. He is remembered in world art as one of the founders of the positive satire genre.
