Amendments to law on subsistence minimum

December 4, 2012

Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Amendments to the Federal Law On the Subsistence Minimum in the Russian Federation.

The law defines the consumer basket, which contains the minimum set of food products, non-foods and services essential for health and survival, and the cost of which is fixed in relation to the cost of the minimum foodstuffs basket.

The law sets the procedures for defining the consumer basket for the main social and demographic groups at the national and regional levels. Under its provisions, along with the draft federal law on the overall consumer basket, a methodology for defining the consumer basket for the country as a whole will be sent to the State Duma.

Under the law, the Russian Federation Government will calculate and set the subsistence minimum per capita and for the main population groups countrywide.
