October 17, 2008

“The region’s long centuries of history contain many glorious and memorable pages”, Mr Medvedev said in his message. “The labour of pioneering heroes and the selfless efforts of generations of people in the region have created a base for developing rich natural and marine resources, built new production facilities and developed a port infrastructure. Of course, Primorye was and remains Russia’s important defensive outpost on the eastern borders.

Primorye Region is growing rapidly today and carrying out important new work to modernise the economy and transport network, implement promising social programmes and expand cooperation with the countries of the Asia Pacific region. I am sure that the energy and commitment of Primorye Region’s people will help to realise the region’s great potential and contribute to its continued dynamic growth.”

Primorye Region is located in Russia’s southeast and is part of the Far East Federal District. It shares borders with China and North Korea.
