Dmitry Medvedev instructed Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to keep the situation with supplies of aircraft fuel for airlines under control

October 20, 2008, The Kremlin, Moscow

The subject of aircraft fuel producers’ and suppliers’ compliance with anti-monopoly legislation was discussed at a working meeting.

Mr Medvedev noted that the anti-monopoly measures already taken are necessary and sufficient for now.

Mr Chaika informed the President that, pursuant to his instruction, an inter-ministerial working group has been set up, composed of specialists from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Interior Ministry, Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, Federal Tariffs Service and other state bodies. He said that 19 reports on putting an end to violations of the laws have already been submitted, 15 warnings announced, more than 20 cases launched for violation of anti-monopoly laws, as well as two criminal cases, and a corruption scheme has been revealed at one airport.

Mr Medvedev discussed problems with passenger transport in the airline industry and rising aircraft fuel prices at earlier meetings with Deputy Prime Ministers Sergei Ivanov and Igor Sechin.
