Dmitry Medvedev and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan opened Russia Square in Yerevan

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of Russia called the opening of Russia Square in Yerevan a landmark event which indicates the profundity of relations between the two countries. Following the ceremony the heads of state also unveiled a commemorative plaque.

Earlier in the day the Russian head of state visited the Memorial Complex in honour of the victims of the Armenian Genocide and laid a wreath of red roses at the monument.

The Russian head of state visited the Armenian Genocide Museum which includes photographs, documents and other evidence of the tragedy. Dmitry Medvedev left the following message in the museum's book for honoured guests: “The Armenian Genocide Museum bears witness to a terrible tragedy of the twentieth century and acts as a reminder that life is a primary value, a value which must be protected by civilised nations.”
