Dmitry Medvedev discussed this year's harvest with Minister of Agriculture Alexei Gordeyev

October 28, 2008, The Kremlin, Moscow

The Minister briefed the President on the exceptional harvest including the record-breaking harvest of cereals and pulses that amounted to 100 million tonnes. According to the Minister, the harvest will be able to satisfy all Russia's food and fodder needs, as well as provide some exports.

Good results have also been achieved in livestock production. According to Alexei Gordeyev, the increase in meat production amounted to more than 8 percent while poultry production increased by 16.5 percent.

They discussed measures to store the 2008 harvest as well as steps to compensate producers for increases in costs and to prevent the excessive increase in prices for agricultural products.

The parties separately discussed maintaining liquidity in Rosselkhozbank and other financial institutions to ensure the normal functioning of the agricultural industry.
