Vladimir Putin visited the town of Gyumri as part of his state visit to Armenia

Together with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Mr Putin followed via videoconference the launch of operations at the Hrazdan thermal power station’s fifth power unit.

The two presidents then took part in a ceremony cancelling a commemorative postal stamp issued specially for the XXII Sochi Winter Olympics. 

Later, Mr Putin and Mr Sargsyan took part in a meeting of the Russian-Armenian Interregional Forum.

While in Gyumri, Vladimir Putin also laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of the Spitak earthquake.

Also, Mr Putin visited the 102nd Russian military base, which is on station in Gyumri as part of the Joint CIS Air Defence System. The President heard a report from the base’s commander, Andrei Ruzinsky, and looked over some of the military equipment.
