The meeting focused on measures to improve the effectiveness of Russia’s law enforcement agencies.

Mr Medvedev said that during the financial crisis, law enforcement agencies are facing new objectives. There is a need to ensure that the state budget funds allocated to support the Russian economy and financial system are used strictly as designated, he said. He also stressed that the activities of the interdepartmental group on the prevention of economic crimes should be stepped up.

Mr Medvedev instructed law enforcement agencies to oppose any attempts to take advantage of the global financial crisis for personal gain, in particular, in the banking sphere.
