Dmitry Medvedev signed federal laws on ratification of the Treaties on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Russia and the Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia

November 24, 2008

The Treaties on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Russia and the Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia were signed in Moscow on September 17, 2008.

The treaties affirm Russia’s policy of developing all-round cooperation and establishing extensive relations at all levels with the two republics, and reflect Russia’s historically close ties with South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The treaties’ provisions cover cooperation in a broad range of areas in the political, economic, social, military and humanitarian spheres. The parties also take on the obligation to cooperate in the fight against organised crime, international terrorism, drugs trafficking, and illegal migration.
