Mr Medvedev’s message says, in particular:
“Alexander Isayevich [Solzhenitsyn] was always distinguished by his restless and freedom-living nature, his integral and exceptional personality, resolute refusal of injustice and falseness, and his firmness of spirit and moral principles. Of course, he also stood out for his boundless filial love for his homeland, his native soil and his compatriots. With his powerful intellect and civic conscience, he continued to think right to his final days about how to ‘build a better Russia’.
Many of his ideas are relevant today and can contribute much towards strengthening statehood and civil society. The members of the Russian and international intelligentsia, prominent scholars and cultural figures who have come together for your forum will discuss issues of modern development in the context of Solzhenitsyn’s heritage and the heritage of world philosophical thought, in which his fundamental works hold a worthy place”.
The conference takes place on December 5–6 in Moscow.
