Mr Medvedev postponed his visit to the Italian city of Bari, where he planned to take part in the ceremony handing the Russian Orthodox Church complex there back to Russia.

Mr Medvedev informed President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano of his decision in a telephone conversation.

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II passed away on Friday morning in his residence in the Moscow Region.
