Mr Singh congratulated Mr Medvedev on his inauguration as President of Russia. Both leaders said that relations between Russia and India have made considerable progress over the last years and have reached a new level.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Singh expressed confidence that the partnership between Russia and India would continue to play an important part in developing multifaceted cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding, and noted the significance in this respect of the Year of Russia in India and the Year of India in Russia in 2008–2009.
Mr Singh invited Mr Medvedev to visit India this year. The invitation was accepted with thanks.
