The negotiations began with a one-on-one meeting, after which the two countries’ delegations joined in.
Mr Putin and Mr Simitis discussed a wide range of international issues, above all the fight against international terrorism. They touched upon the strengthening of the United Nations, European security and links between Russia and the EU in view of Greece taking up the rotating Presidency of the organisation in 2003. They also discussed regional conflicts, especially in the Middle East and the Balkans, and the Cypriot issue.
At the end of the negotiations, Mr Putin and Mr Simitis replied to journalists’ questions.
