President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to Queen Elizabeth II of Britain to congratulate Her Majesty on the 50 years of Her reign

June 4, 2002

The telegram said, in part:

“The people of Russia are paying much attention to and are showing their respect for the Royal family. Your Majesty’s visit to the Russian Federation in 1994 left wonderful memories. For Russians, Your Majesty is a bright example of service to the people and defending its values and traditions.

“I am convinced that the long-term partnership, which marks a new stage of cooperation between Great Britain and Russia based on common values and joint efforts to tackle the challenges that face humankind, will continue successfully developing for the benefit of our countries and in the interests of strengthening peace and international security.

“I wish Your Majesty and Your family health and well-being, and the people of the United Kingdom peace and prosperity.”
