President Vladimir Putin arrived in Stavropol to get first-hand information on the situation in the flood-stricken regions

June 28, 2002

The President made an inspection flight aboard a helicopter over the regions severely damaged by the snowmelt floods.

He visited the Barsukovskaya village that suffered the heaviest damage, with nearly a thousand residents evacuated and the rest moved to a tent camp.

Speaking with the President, the villagers asked for financial assistance and help in rebuilding housing. Vladimir Putin also visited a local sick ward. Answering numerous requests for help, the head of state assured the people that all possible assistance would be rendered.
