As part of a regular exchange of opinions on the most pressing international issues, the two heads of state discussed the Iraqi problem. They said it was necessary to work out a common approach which would meet the interests of strengthening international security and consolidating the counter-terrorist coalition.
During their discussion, the Russian President said he doubted whether the use of force against Iraq was justified from the point of view of international law and global policy. He stressed the need to coordinate political and diplomatic efforts in implementing the UN Security Council resolutions on Iraq.
The leaders of the countries also discussed developing cooperation in the counter-terrorist coalition and other issues.
