Mr Putin and Mr Bush discussed the situation in Iraq since the local authorities had allowed the return of international weapons inspectors. Mr Putin emphasised that it was necessary to start the UN verification and inspection activity in Iraq as soon as possible.
The Presidents agreed to cooperate on issues related to Iraq within the framework of the UN and bilaterally.
Mr Putin and Mr Bush also discussed issues related to cooperation in the sphere of strategic stability.
Also, the Presidents agreed to meet during the APEC summit in Mexico at the end of October 2002.
