President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze

October 6, 2002, Chisinau

At the meeting President Putin said relations with Georgia were at an unacceptably low level. He proposed that they discuss all aspects of bilateral relations in the economic, political, the humanitarian spheres, and the fight against terrorism.

Mr Putin and Mr Shevardnadze agreed to improve cooperation between the two countries’ special services, and border service and foreign affairs agencies.

During an interview after the meeting, Mr Putin said that Mr Shevardnadze had assured him Georgia was ready to extradite the terrorists detained on its territory to Russia.
