October 18, 2002, The Kremlin, Moscow

The negotiators paid special attention to the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and to extending Russia-ASEAN partnership. Mr Putin said that Russia counted on Thailand’s support in joining the World Trade Organisation.

Mr Putin described Thailand as a reliable partner in Asia, and said that the Russian-Thai trade turnover was approaching the $500 million mark. He expressed his hope that Mr Shinavatra’s visit to Russia would give a strong impetus to bilateral trade and economic contacts. He stressed the importance of high technologies among the new fields of bilateral partnership.
