President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who expressed sympathy over the hostage situation in Moscow

Mr Chretien expressed sincere support and sympathy on behalf of the Canadian people. He said Russia was in the minds of all Canadians now.

Mr Putin and Mr Chretien discussed coordination of efforts in fighting terrorism both in connection with the tragic events in Moscow and globally.
