President Vladimir Putin sent a letter to the participants in the 12th meeting of the leaders of the Ibero-American countries held in the Dominican Republic

November 16, 2002

The letter said, in part, that for many years the forum had been a bright example of the dialogue aimed at promoting understanding, and maintaining the unity of traditions and versatility of cultures of peoples living on different continents.

The Russian head of state thanked the leadership and peoples of the Latin American states for their solidarity with Russia during the hostage crisis in Moscow. In connection with this, Mr Putin said “the series of terrorist attacks around the world is more proof that only by joining forces of the entire international community on the basis of the UN principles can we give an appropriate response to those challenges.”

In conclusion, the President said Russia was set to actively develop multi-faceted relations with the states participating in the meeting, on a bilateral and multi-lateral basis and establish mutually beneficial contacts with the permanent bodies of the Ibero-American cooperation.
