The leaders discussed a wide range of international problems, plans for stepping up joint efforts in fighting international terrorism and pressing issues of Russian-Ukrainian cooperation.

Mr Putin thanked Mr Kuchma for the moral support he provided during the hostage crisis at the Dubrovka Theatre Centre on October 23–26. In connection with this, the President said any attempts to justify some manifestations of terrorism could lead to the disintegration of the international counter-terrorist coalition and put an end to the fight against terrorism.

The Russian head of state praised the latest moves by the Ukrainian leadership directed at promoting trade and economic and energy cooperation between the two countries.
