President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Cabinet

December 9, 2002, The Kremlin, Moscow

In an opening address, Mr Putin thanked Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze for his resolute fight against terrorism in compliance with the Chisinau agreements.

Georgian secret services eliminated the most notorious terrorists, some of them were involved in residential house blasts in Moscow. One was captured and brought to the Lefortovo detention centre, Mr Putin said.

He expressed his hope that such an alliance of Russian and Georgian secret services and law enforcement agencies would promote not only the counter-terrorist combat but also Russian-Georgian relations.

Mr Putin stressed the importance of a detailed discussion of structural monopolies’ investment programmes, which the Government had scheduled for this week. The issue was closely connected with setting next year tariffs, the President said.
