The message said, in part:

“Your victory in the presidential election is proof of your high prestige as a state figure who has tangibly contributed to the establishment and successful development of the Republic of Slovenia and also as a politician enjoying high respect in the international arena.

“I warmly recall our talks in Ljubljana and Moscow. I highly appreciate your contribution to the process of rapprochement of the Slavonic peoples’ cultures. I am convinced that the dynamically developing partnership between Russia and Slovenia will be further strengthened on the basis of the Declaration on Friendship and Cooperation and other major bilateral agreements. I hope our fruitful contacts will continue in the future.”
