Mr Putin and Mr al-Assad discussed the results of Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam’s visit to Russia in mid January. Both sides expressed confidence that the agreements reached in Moscow would be a solid basis for the productive development of Russian-Syrian relations.

Mr Putin and Mr Asad exchanged opinions on the Iraqi situation. They expressed the unanimous position to settle the conflict peacefully following the decisions taken by the UN Security Council.
