During the meeting President Putin asked about the work to preserve and develop ethnic languages in Russia and if the appropriate programmes were sufficiently financed.
Mr Zorin told the President that instruction in Russian schools was currently carried out in 38 ethnic languages. There were also 400 newspapers and magazines published in 59 languages, as well as television and radio broadcasts in 56 languages.
