President Vladimir Putin proposed reinstating the Spartakiad (an athletic competition) of the peoples of Russia and asked Jacques Rogge to support this idea.
Mr Rogge said the International Olympic Committee was ready to support this and other similar projects, and thanked Mr Putin for his efforts to promote athletics in Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chairman of the State Sports Committee, and Leonid Tyagachyov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee, also took part in the meeting.
