The message said, in part:
“I am pleased to note our coinciding assessments of the Iraqi situation, including those on the UN Security Council. In effect, we are searching for ways of solving important problems that will confront humankind in the next few decades. Russia remains committed to the UN Charter and the fundamental norms and principles of international law and unequivocally prefers peaceful and diplomatic means for settling various crises, including those linked with non-proliferation issues.”
Vladimir Putin said Russia and India agree on the need to prevent damage to the UN system. President Putin stressed that the international community lacked any other universal mechanism which is needed by every country.
The Russian leader also praised India’s commitment to strengthening the prestige of the UN and said Moscow was ready to expand bilateral cooperation in this sphere.
