The committee was established by the presidential decree of March 11, 2003, on the basis of the abolished tax police and relevant agencies of the Interior Ministry.
Mr Cherkesov told the President that as organisational matters pertaining to the establishment of a new agency were being tackled, due attention was also given to preserving the available law enforcement potential for fighting fiscal crime.
He also told Mr Putin that the personnel of the Federal Tax Police Service urgently needed to be reoriented to the fight against drug trafficking.
