Speaking at the Victory Day parade on Red Square, President Vladimir Putin called the Great Patriotic War a time of fearless courage, immortal acts, strength of spirit and triumph of honour. “To this day, it is in this victory that we draw our strength and find our spiritual support. And we strive to live and work in such a way as to ensure this terrible war never repeats itself,” Putin said

Putin noted how important it is to remember the lessons of this war today. “We must remember how this war began, and we cannot let ourselves forget why the Fascists took for themselves the right to decide the fate of the world, the fate of other countries and peoples, and why they became convinced they could shape history with their own hands and go unpunished,” he said.

At the beginning of World War II, people did not immediately recognise just how great a threat Fascism was. It took years and millions of victims before humankind united. Today, all civilised countries must unite their efforts in fighting the new global threat that is international terrorism.
