Mr. Putin said that there are no problems in Russian-U.S. relations that cannot be overcome, and stressed that despite all that took place regarding Iraq, the Russian and U.S. presidents have not only kept up their personal contacts, but have maintained relations between their two countries.

The Russian and U.S. presidents are both concerned by the possibility of proliferation of military nuclear technology in the world, and in particular they called on North Korea to begin dismantling its nuclear programs. Both presidents also pledged to work with each other on the fight against terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Mr. Putin and Mr. Bush also reached agreements on creating a favourable investment climate in Russia and possibly repealing the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which remains an obstacle for developing trade and economic relations between Russia and the United States.
