Vladimir Putin met with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder

During the meeting Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that the markets would respond positively to the results of the G8 Summit.

The President congratulated Gerhard Schroeder on the results of the extraordinary Congress of the Social-Democratic Party of Germany and expressed confidence that the support the Chancellor got at the Congress would give a substantial impetus to the European and world economies.

Vladimir Putin and Gerhard Schroeder discussed the agenda of the Russian-German government-level consultations scheduled for October 2003 in Yekaterinburg. The main issues in the October intergovernmental consultations, as the Russian President and the German Chancellor agreed, will be the prospects for broader scientific and industrial cooperation.

During the bilateral meeting an exchange of opinions took place on the topical aspects of cooperation in space, aviation and energy, as well as in the gas sphere.

A Russian-German energy forum is to be held before the end of 2003.
