President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding kindergarten teacher Marem Arapkhanova from the Sunzhensk District in the Republic of Ingushetia the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for the courage and heroism shown while carrying out her civic duty

Marem Arapkhanova, the mother of four children, maintained resistance to illegal military units which had crossed the state border of the Russian Federation on September 26, 2002.

Her self-sacrificing actions helped to locate and defeat a group of militants nearby the village Galashka in the Sunzhensky District of the Republic of Ingushetia.
