President Vladimir Putin congratulated his country's expatriates on Russia Day

June 12, 2003

In a number of foreign countries, expatriate organisations helped to organise celebrations to mark Russia’s national holiday.

The following message was read during celebrations in Kiev and Simferopol:

“Please accept my congratulations on Russia Day. This holiday holds a special place on the official calendar of our state, and we are pleased that it is being marked together with us by our fellow countrymen living abroad, by our friends and partners in brotherly Ukraine.

“These current festivities will add another bright page to the Year of Russia in Ukraine. Ties of equal partnership link our countries today. I am confident that a common historical heritage, shared spiritual and cultural values, and the unbreakable union of human destinies will provide a reliable foundation for the further development of trustful relations between our countries and peoples.”

President Putin also addressed warm words to those gathered for the occasion in Germany, noting that the holiday brings together not only Russians but also Russia’s expatriates and all friends of the Russian state:

“It is gratifying to see that Russia Day is also being celebrated in Germany. Our country is linked with Germany by firm bonds of partnership and shares a desire to work together in the interests of the two countries and all of Europe.

“I would like to warmly congratulate all my fellow countrymen living there, and I wish them personal achievements and success in the promotion of Russian-German relations. My sincere thanks also go to the German colleagues who have helped to organise these festivities.”
